Do you think there are unnecessary modern features?
Hello fellow car people.
Why do many features exist? This is - aside from raising prices, being used as selling points, and creating planned obsolescence. Maybe I'm missing something here, so I would like to discuss the topic and see other perspectives.
Take lane assist for instance. I've met some people who say that lane assist has kept them from falling asleep at the wheel. So what is lane assist doing? Promoting drowsy driving and inattentiveness? Yeah sounds safe.
The whole autonomous driving shtick - why do we need self driving cars? It is just a matter of time before someone is watching a movie on their phone while "driving".
Brake regen rate - why can the driver change it in some cars? Is there a benefit to lower regen?
While many assists can certainly be useful, I fear we're in for a disaster. They could undermine the quality of drivers in the future. Imagine that every car has self parking built in. Now driving schools have 3 options: A) stick with older cars; B) get newer cars; C) create a tier system where one can pay extra to drive the newer cars - I do not believe that they would ever go for option A. New drivers will not even need to learn how to parallel park.
Driving modes; incredibly slow electrically adjustable seats; et cetera.
Given how a commentator responded, I didn't think I had to say this, but here you go: THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT WE ARE DOOMED or some shit like that
