What is possible to grow here? (Boston, MA)
We are entering our second summer in a new house in Boston, and I’m looking for advice on how we can try to use the backyard.
The ground is gravel which needs to stay that way because of politics, unfortunately. I’ve had a dream of adding raised beds along the fence and planting veggies but we saw last summer that these trees provide a shocking amount of coverage (they’re pictured here in the fall) so there’s not enough direct sunlight for a lot of things and I think even part-shade plants would struggle.
So now I’m just looking towards doing some kind of landscaping, even if it’s just containers, but I’m not sure what would grow well under trees and without ground soil. I really want it to be pretty and functional, and any advice would be great!
