2017 Renault Kadjar knocking over bumps, just passed MOT
Hi all. Started driving the car again after the wife borrowed it for a period of time to find that there was a knocking noise, seemingly from the nearside front, going over uneven roads or speed humps. It can also be replicated when turning left and right quickly (thankfully I have a fairly large patch of tarmac at my depot where I can test it...it's also full of potholes). The steering feels fine, the car feels like it's riding as well as it was before the noise appeared.
Anyway, we have a garage at the depot and I had one of the mechanics check it over underneath. There was no play in any of the ARB links, tie rod ends, CV joints etc. I drove him around the yard and he said he could hear it and it sounded like it might be the very start of a link going somewhere.
Over the last two weeks it sounds like it's gotten a bit worse/louder. I know my car and I'm generally quite able to figure out where it's coming from, but this is baffling me. Hence, I've had it MOT'd today by the MOT station we use nearby and it failed on the OFFSIDE wishbone and front brake pads. So, had them replaced, drove out the car park and clunk...the noise is still there on the nearside. It doesn't sound metallic, almost muffled, and isn't audible any more when the windows are down.
I've even had the car on the lift at the garage and can't see anything myself that would alarm me. So I'm now wondering whether it's a worn or broken top strut mount, or something entirely different.
I've checked everywhere inside to make sure there's nothing loose in the boot, glovebox etc.
I'm likely to go back to the garage in the morning to let them know but does anyone have any idea what this might be? It's driving me insane 😤🤯
