I would like some help, please.

Hello, Embroiders of Reddit!

I need some help.

When I started this project, my intentions were to fill the bottom black to tie right into the silhouettes.

But before I had even finished the characters, let alone the background, I began to wonder if I was doing a disservice to myself by not exploring other options.

I have considered a solid brown, but including some brown, rocky looking beads

I have considered short & long stitches, using multiple ‘Earthy’ shades

I have considered staying black, but using a different stitch to set it apart from the rest of the scene.

I’ve even considered painting, then gluing sand to the canvas. I’m a fan of multi-media.

So here is my ask.

I am hoping you could share examples of stitched ‘ground’ that might inspire or guide me.

I am hoping you could provide suggestions that I hadn’t even considered.

So far, the piece has turned out far better than anticipated, and I don’t want to Screw It Up now.

I made a small test version of this, but it was small enough that the ground was left the bare tan of the fabric.

Mainly, I am asking the opinions of those who came before me- What can be done with this space?

I’m fairly new on my embroidering journey, so admit with zero shame or hesitation that ‘Most of you know more than most of me.’

Thank You all for your thoughts, suggestions, and helpful opinions on this most exciting of dilemmas.

I enjoy seeing the many, many amazing pieces you have created and shared with us here. You inspire me to be better.

Strength and Health to you all.

May your needles stay sharp,

And your eyes do the same.
