Reduced effectiveness of Vyvanse with upcoming exams
Dear ADHD community,
first time poster here, so please be kind and tell me if I do something wrong or if you need more information!
I (39F) got diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive) earlier this year, wich was a huge relief. I started medication and behavioural therapy.
At first I took Methylphenidat (half immediate, half extended release), but I didn't feel any different plus I had problems with increased heart rate so my doctor switched me to Vyvanse. First 30mg (which didn't do much), then 50mg wich suddenly did the trick!
My problem now is, that after almost 3 months on Vyvanse 50mg I noticed that the positive effects reduced a lot. It is not like I do not feel any effects (I forgot to take the meds a few times and these days were even worse), but I feel like I have such a foggy brain and it takes so much energy to try and stay focused. The problem is, that I will have important exams in less than two weeks.
Is there a short-term fix for this? Any experiences in similar situations?
Important details:
- I already called my doctors practice. They will be in touch later today or tomorrow. But I would love to hear about your experiences in similar circumstances! It might help me ask the right questions.
- So far I did not take any days off. My doctor advised me to take it everyday. I do think this might not have been wise and the situation might have been preventable with days off of the meds. But right now I don't have the time to start this, as I have exams in less than two weeks... Wouldn't be a problem at all in the future, just not right now.
Thank you all so much in advance!!
Edit: I sleep well (about 7-8 hours per night), drink plenty and eat regularly (have a healthy breakfast before taking it, a protein-heavy light lunch and regular dinner, usually healthy). No change here in the last few weeks!
